WHO… we are

We’re Kerryn and Leigh Brodie. We’re a family owned and operated leather accessories developer and manufacturer in Brunswick East. We develop and supply a premium range of leather belts to well-known Australian brands. Graine was founded in June 2012 and is our first in house leather handbag brand. Our father Colin has been in the business for over 40 years. Leigh is my brother, and he started working for the business 15 years ago. We also have our skilled leather artisans, Albert and Lauren, in the team.

WHEN… we relocated to Brunswick East

We loved it straight away. We relocated from Collingwood to Brunswick East in 2004. We’re surrounded by a diverse community of artists and makers and a sustainably conscious demographic in Brunswick East. It’s really inspiring to see other talented and hardworking individuals in our community. Supporting our local community; our local talent and suppliers will contribute to shaping a more sustainable and stronger economy within the Australian fashion industry.

HOW… our products reflect our values

We make our range of handbags, clutches and wallets, travel bags and backpacks, handbags from high quality, soft Australian bovine leathers which we’ve developed by working closely with our Victorian tannery. These leathers are the by-product of the meat industry and the tannery has the highest rating from The Leather Working Group. Knowing that the leather was sourced and produced locally in a sustainable way with a focus on minimising environmental impact adds great value to our leather. Our customers are always interested in hearing about leathers, materials and processes. We enable them to shop in a way that’s aligned with their ethics, and that’s valuable to them. We became certified to use the Australian Made and Australian Grown logo in 2017.

WHY… we make our accessories the way we do

Graine accessories are made one at a time. This allows our leather artisans to give the required care and attention to each piece. We feel it's important to keep these skills and traditions that have been passed down through generations local and believe that owning a few well-made accessories is far more rewarding than owning many poorly made ones. We apply our combined skills and experience working in the leather industry to assist with designing and developing unique leather accessories that go ‘against the grain’. They’re made to age better over time and develop a patina which increases the natural beauty of the leather.

WHERE… we sell our products

We have our own store and showroom in our Brunswick East factory. We have gained momentum over the years with a growing number of retail partners Australia wide, including THE ICONIC. We launched there in 2016 and became part of their ‘Considered’ initiative in April 2019.While we’ve noticed an increase in online sales over the past few years, the majority of our customers still love to see, touch, and smell the leather products in the flesh. We love meeting new customers; they’re always so excited to discover there’s someone still making bags locally in Melbourne!

Graine is a Moreland Made success story!
